Flood Barrier Abbe Museum

The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven (the Netherlands) is beautifully located in the bed of the Dommel river. However, the museum was not designed to withstand a peak water flow from the river, risking the art storage to be flooded. Waterarchitect and Sweco collaborated to consult a safe and aesthetic solution. The installed solution is a self-rising barrier that will float up when the water would reach a certain threshold.
